Infertility Treatment
There are times when couples are trying to conceive, but they can’t seem to do so. In theses cases they may opt for infertility treatment.
However, there are some hard facts to have taken into consideration before deciding about infertility treatment. The decision to opt for infertility treatment is not something to get lightly and is accompanied with several serious problems:
- This kind of treatment is usually quite expensive
- There is no guarantee of success
- There are non desired side effects
The treatment is expensive and for this very reason most health insurance policies will not cover the treatment either. The couple needs to have all the necessary information up front before committing to any method of treatment.
The type of treatment you will be offered depends and will be determined by your health condition and the problem you suffer from. The fact that when women get older, their chances of getting pregnant decrease. Therefore, it obvious that younger woman will be offered different treatment then women 35 or over may be offered. It could be something different as in skipping over some of the steps with infertility treatment.
Those woman who have ovulation problems, are offered certain drugs to treat the problem. Even though these drugs are recommended by the specialists and they are meant to stimulate your ovaries still there is a chance that treatment will not lead to the intended results and the treatment will fail. The failure in the treatment lessens the chances for a pregnancy of more than one baby.
When drugs don’t work, and it happens, the next step in the treatment is the hormone shots. It’s the right time and place to mention that this infertility treatment leads to some mild to moderate side effects.
Many times it increases the chances of having multiple babies at once. (good for you

It happens that the doctor cannot determine the true cause of the infertility and if none of the procedures work, couples may be offered vetro fertilization or IVF.
In this process the man’s sperm is mixed with the woman’s eggs together in a lab setting. Sometimes, when needed, sperm or eggs can come from donors of course.
When the egg and sperm join the Fertilization occurs. Once this happens, the doctor can put one or more of these fertilized eggs, or embryos, into your uterus where it can grow. Just to increase the chances for one of the fertilized eggs to become a baby in this infertility treatment, usually more than one embryo is usually place in the uterus.
However, for couples experiencing infertility problems IVF is the most serious, and last resort.
As mentioned earlier it is a very expensive procedure, and people with normal incomes usually cannot afford more than a one shot deal.
When the treatment doesn’t work, there are possibly 2 other options.
Entering into an agreement with a surrogate is one of these options. It is more a solution then an infertility treatment. The surrogate solution can work when the infertility problem is with the woman, in that she either cannot conceive or she cannot carry the baby to term.
In this case the man’s sperm is still used. When the woman is unable to carry a baby to term, her eggs can still be used.
There is nothing more heartbreaking for a lot of couples then the fact that they are unable to conceive a baby. However, even if you are one of them you should know that still there are additional options for you to try.
You can always consider adopting one of the many unwanted children in the world, and create your own happy family even if none of the fertility treatment methods mentioned above work for you.
