IUI Stories of Success Without Fertility Drugs
IUI Stories of Success Without Fertility Drugs
|
Since IUI is a procedure that is often used to overcome mild to moderate male factor infertility problems like low sperm count or poor motility, many couples opt to do the procedure without drugs. Women who are ovulating regularly and who are producing healthy eggs can usually get pregnant through IUI without any fertility-enhancing drugs, even though they might choose to take certain herbs or undergo complementary therapy to make their eggs even healthier. Here are some IUI stories from couples who have opted for drug-free IUI treatment. Barb’s Natural Cycle IUI by Necessity Most of the time, doctors who specialize in fertility will recommend that couples try medicated IUI because it has a higher percentage chance of working. Well, Barb and her husband went this route for two rounds of IUI, but Barb responded poorly to each of the different medications. Even though her follicles grew, her uterine lining thinned out, making it more difficult to get pregnant. After some discussion, Barb and her husband decided to change to natural cycle IUI on the third round. Instead of medications, she took licorice root to ramp up her estrogen levels, which it seriously did. During the second phase of her cycle, her OBGYN prescribed progesterone suppositories. Apparently, the natural supplements worked, since Barb produced more than one viable egg on her own and ended up becoming pregnant totally without the ovulation induction medications! Kara’s Donor Sperm IUI Kara, too, had tried to get pregnant through medicated IUI, but she didn’t respond so well to the medications, either. Plus, she has to use donor sperm because her husband doesn’t produce any at all. Kara tried just two cycles of totally natural IUI, and both times she ovulated like clockwork. She got pregnant on the second cycle and carried a healthy baby to full term! Sharon’s Donor Sperm IUI Hearing that many other women had had success in getting pregnant through IUI with donor sperm, Sharon, who is single, decided to give it a go. After monitoring her cycle, her doctor decided that she didn’t need any medications for the first couple of rounds, since she was generally very healthy and in good shape. The first round of IUI was a little painful; she recalls getting cramps afterwards for several hours. When that cycle didn’t take, Sharon decided to try one more cycle naturally before moving on to medications. This time, the timing was perfect, and the injection was totally pain-free. After her two week wait, Sharon went in for testing and found out that she was pregnant with her first baby! She plans to give IUI another shot in a couple of years, too. Donna’s Totally Natural IUI Even though her doctor suggested that she use Clomid on her very first IUI cycle after trying to conceive naturally for two years, Donna and her husband decided to try a natural cycle. They knew from tracking Donna’s cycles for months that she ovulated regularly, and testing revealed that her hormone levels were great. The only problem was that her husband’s sperm had low motility, so they forged ahead with unmedicated IUI cycles, using an at-home ovulation predictor to time when to go in to the doctor for an ultrasound. Before the first cycle, Donna did everything she could think of to help up her odds of pregnancy – yoga, acupuncture, and a healthy diet, just to name a few. When the first cycle failed, she kept right on doing what she was doing, and she and her husband jumped right into a second cycle the month after. This time, it worked, and Donna found out she was pregnant just a couple of weeks later!
