Pregnancy rates are four times higher for teenagers that are pregnant in the age of 15 to 19, than for women that are in the age of 25 to 29 years. • Teenage pregnancy results to difficulty in continuing their education. In fact, as the rate for pregnant teenager increases, the drop out rate in schools is also pretty high. Though they come from comparable environments, there are 61 percent of adolescents who still wait to enter the age of 20 to 21 before having babies so that they can complete the secondary level in school without any hassle. • Still after giving birth, most young mothers find it difficult to keep up her peers when their academic performance is concerned for the reason that she has to repeat classes and at the end, she may never graduate at all because she could not cope up with the lessons. • Finding a source of income turns out to be very difficult because every position demands certain skills and since she is unable to finish her education, she is not qualified to any of the available positions. • The only option left once the teenage pregnancy has passed is to take some public assistance or social welfare. Most young mothers are unmarried and more than 70 percent of them ask for some support within five years of becoming a mother. • Children from teenage pregnancy are often retarded, lack psycho-social development and sometimes, suffering from malnutrition. This is because the mother is not fully skilled and the mother fails to understand what her baby needs. • This young mother can also show some behavioral tendencies that are considered socially unacceptable. This is indeed the worst effect of a teenage pregnancy. Now that you have understood the effect teenage pregnancy, it is strongly recommended that you avoid getting pregnant at a very young age.
